A DAY OF FLOWERS CLASS

An introduction to the art of ARRANGING FLOWERS

In this immersive one day class we’ll explore ways to capture the essence of the season and to celebrate the natural world through the subtle, artistic arrangement of flowers, revelling in the abundance of late spring on the cusp of summer. This class is ideal for those seeking an introduction to this enriching creative practice or for those who wish to build on existing skill. This is a day of relaxation, creativity and discovery.

Through a morning and afternoon session we will focus on the central keystone of naturalistic floral design by allowing the materials and their natural tendencies to guide each arrangement. Guiding you through the practical techniques for creating an enchanting garden-inspired bouquet and an asymmetric arrangement we’ll touch on volume and proportion, colour, editing and the intentional allowance of negative space.

HAND TIED BOUQUET

The morning will be spent exploring how to create ethereal, garden-inspired bouquets that evoke a just-gathered spontaneity. We’ll talk you through the ‘hand-vase’ technique, which allows us to showcase the beauty of every ingredient without contorting or spiralling the materials.

SMALL VASE ARRANGEMENT

During the afternoon session you’ll make a low-slung table arrangement in a ceramic vessel. Starting with a sphere of chicken wire moulded for support, we will layer structural branches with dainty stems, exploring the design elements of shape and colour and the importance of negative space.

This is a one day class which will run from 10am to 3.30pm with a short break for lunch. If you are visiting from outside of London and are looking for ideas on places to stay, shop and eat in our wonderful home city you can find suggestions here. Directions to the studio in Shepherd’s Bush can be found here. Teas and coffees throughout the day are provided, as are the use of snips, aprons, flowers and mechanics. We stock a small range of our own brand ceramics, books and Japanese tools to buy at the studio.
