SEASON OF MISTS

Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness,
Close bosom-friend of the maturing sun;
Conspiring with him how to load and bless
With fruit the vines that round the thatch-eves run;
To bend with apples the moss'd cottage-trees,
And fill all fruit with ripeness to the core...

We run a limited number of intensive design workshops at our studio in West London. Each workshop celebrates the finest materials of the season, many grown and foraged at our cutting garden in the Hampshire countryside. These workshops are designed to give students a truly intensive creative experience as well as hands-on practical lessons on how to create floral designs for events and weddings in a naturalistic style without restrictive rules.
P R A C T I C A L S K I L L S & D E S I G N
Using the finest autumnal flowers, branches and foliage, students will learn how to compose loose, romantic bridal bouquets, create centrepiece arrangements, and how to build larger-scale designs including urns and floral installations.
As well as practical techniques and composition we will explore ways of working to a client's brief, development of a colour palette, choice of props, and how to create floral designs that savour the time of year, the setting and, most crucially, the ingredients of the season.
T H E B U S I N E S S O F F L O W E R S
This workshop is open to all levels, from beginners at the start of their floral journey to seasoned florists and arrangers looking to rejuvenate their wedding and event work with a new philosophy or style. In relaxed, open group discussions we will explore the nitty gritty of wedding and event design and logistics, the challenges and advantages of using own-grown and locally sourced materials, and how to work with the seasons.
We will share experiences from our own journey and discuss our design philosophy, the importance of provenance, finding inspiration in art and contemporary design and how to conceptualise and deliver an original creative brief.
P R E S E N T A T I O N & S T Y L I N G
We will finish each session by demonstrating how to style your finished piece for an atmospheric series of photographs. Students are encouraged to bring along their cameras - workshops are a great opportunity to practise photographing flowers for portfolios and social media, and to document arrangements taking shape.
Using natural light and with a studio full of props, from swathes of silk velvet and linen to antique candlesticks, ceramics and tableware in pewter, brass and glass, we will explore ways to set up a beautiful still-life scene for the perfect portfolio image.

In this morning class we will create a garden-inspired romantic bridal bouquet. Focusing on blending colours, adding texture and placing gestural flowers, we will design a loose, natural shape finished with streaming silk or velvet ribbons.
T A B L E F L O W E R S
We will demonstrate how to create a low table arrangement using the chicken-wire technique, incorporating small, sculptural branches for shape and layering blowsy face flowers and whimsical gestural stems for a bowl brimming with scent, colour and texture.

We will demonstrate and then guide you through your own urn arrangement using chicken wire for structure. Creating a foundation of large seasonal briars and branches for shape, we will layer the largest focal flowers and lastly add in the wispy gestures or 'accents'.
G R O U P I N S T A L L A T I O N
As a team we will design and build a hanging/wall installation. We will share our way of approaching these for wedding ceremonies and events including both the design and mechanics that go into large-scale floral and foam-free installations.
Workshop price £925 + VAT.
A delicious, light seasonal lunch and refreshments will be supplied each day and all materials and snips are provided.
You are welcome to take home your bouquets and any spare flowers after the workshop.
Attendees are encouraged to bring a camera or iPhone for photographing their styled arrangements.
Places are limited to a maximum of six per workshop: we teach as a pair and keep our intensive workshops intimate so that every student can benefit from individual attention and two sets of expertise and advice.
