Autumn Workshops 2018

Aesme Flowers | Autumn Flower Arranging Workshops

We're very excited to announce the dates for our forthcoming autumn classes!

We'll be hosting these classes at our studio in Shepherd's Bush, West London.

We run a limited number of workshops per year throughout the growing season which runs from April through to late October. Besides Christmas classes these dates will be the last group workshops we run for the 2018 season. Our spring classes 2019 will be announced in the New Year.

Each workshop celebrates the finest materials of the season, many grown and foraged at our cutting garden in the Hampshire countryside. These workshops are designed to give students a truly intensive creative experience as well as hands-on practical lessons on how to create floral designs for events and weddings in a naturalistic style without restrictive rules. They are open to all levels, from beginners at the start of their floral journey to seasoned florists and arrangers looking to rejuvenate their wedding and event work with a new philosophy or style.

A Seasonal Urn & Still Life Styling Workshop

Saturday 1st September

This workshop will focus on the creation and styling of majestic urn arrangements powerfully evocative of the beginning of autumn. We will cover the mechanics of building large scale arrangements for weddings and events, including the use of chicken wire for structure; balance, scale and shape; colour theory and the selection of materials for their scent and texture.

Working in antique vessels, we will demonstrate the practical and design techniques we use when creating urns, which can also be applied to other forms of arrangement including centrepieces and mantle designs. Each student will select their own colour palette and materials, and will be guided through creating their design before styling each piece in a seasonal 'tableau' still life with candles and props.

'Season of Mists'

A Two-Day Intensive Floral Design Workshop

Friday 5th October + Saturday 6th October

Using the finest autumnal flowers, branches and foliage, students will learn how to compose loose, romantic bridal bouquets, create centrepiece arrangements, and how to build larger-scale designs including urns and floral installations.

As well as practical techniques and composition we will explore ways of working to a client's brief, development of a colour palette, choice of props, and how to create floral designs that savour the time of year, the setting and, most crucially, the ingredients of the season.

We will finish each session by demonstrating how to style your finished piece for an atmospheric series of photographs. Students are encouraged to bring along their cameras - workshops are a great opportunity to practise photographing flowers for portfolios and social media, and to document arrangements taking shape.

Using natural light and with a studio full of props, from swathes of silk velvet and linen to antique candlesticks, ceramics and tableware in pewter, brass and glass, we will explore ways to set up a beautiful still-life scene for the perfect portfolio image.
